Grants Possibilities for Providers

  1. Singing for Change Charitable Foundation, Inc. (Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville)
    • Children and families
      Grants are awarded to programs that are concerned with the health, education and protection of children and their families. Projects that foster self-esteem and self-sufficiency and that teach nonviolence and creative problem solving are most likely to be considered.
    • Disenfranchised groups
      SFC defines these groups as people who have been marginalized in our society because of their low levels of skill, education or income; people with AIDS, disabilities, and homeless people. Projects most likely to be considered are those which: help people overcome social or economic barriers to education or employment; promote the empowerment of individuals toward self-sufficiency, and provide opportunities for personal growth; demonstrate human equality and encourage people to cross boundary lines to help others.

  2. Christopher D. Smithers Foundation, Inc.
    Grants are for:
    • educating the public that alcoholism is a respectable, treatable disease from which people can and do recover
    • encouraging prevention programs and activities with an emphasis on high-risk populations
    • fighting to reduce and eliminate the stigma associated with the disease of alcoholism
    Awards: $200 - $100,000

    Office Depot supports non-profits at the local level with donations of products and contributions of funds. Must directly impact the health, education and welfare of children.

  4. The Ambrose Monell Foundation
    The foundation's mission is to voluntarily aid and contribute to religious, charitable, scientific, literary, and educational uses and purposes, in New York, elsewhere in the United States and throughout the world. Deadlines: October 31, April 30.

  5. National Institute of Health (NIH)
    Health Disparities Among Minority and Underserved Women
    Deadlines: Various until 8/28/07
    The purpose of this grant is to stimulate research aimed at reducing health disparities among racial/ethnic minority and underserved women. Specifically:
    • Research related to health promotion or risk reduction among minority and underserved women 21+ years old.
    • Intervention studies that show promise for improving the health profile of minority and underserved women. Special emphasis on indicators: physical activity, overweight, tobacco use, substance abuse, responsible sexual behavior, injury and violence.
