ADAMH E-Newsletter
We are into our second year of the grants program at the ADAMH Board, and pleased that we have accomplished our results from ADAMH's 2003 Strategic Business Plan addressing the need to supplement its tax-supported budget from private funding sources. We have enhanced revenues to fund strategic priorities and innovations to care for consumers so that they can experience recovery from mental illness and addictions.

This quarterly newsletter is intended to keep you current on the grant seeking activities at the ADAMH Board, share future opportunities for partnering, and help you in your own efforts to seek grant funding for your organizations. The newsletter is sent to all provider Executive Directors and grants managers. Please contact Elaine Newman at enewman@adamh.co.franklin.oh.us or 222-3726 to make additions to the distribution list.

Grantseeking Tips
Evaluation
The Program Evaluation is a vital component in the grant proposal. It tells the funder how you are going to determine the success or failure of the program. The biggest mistake that grant writers make when it comes to the evaluation is underestimating how important it is.

The evaluation section must describe what is to be measured, how it will be measured, when it will be measured, and what will be done with the information resulting from the evaluation. Some grantors require an explanation of proposed knowledge dissemination following the project period.

You will generally want to collect both qualitative and quantitative data to do both process and product evaluations. Depending upon the size and scope of the project, you may want to contract with an external evaluator in order to get a thorough and objective evaluation. Evaluation results should be used throughout the course of the project to determine the need for changes in methodology.

Some funders, particularly federal government agencies, require specific evaluation techniques or tools be used, in addition to those you design. Read instructions carefully in this regard. Your local evaluator should be familiar with the federal Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA) requirements when applying for a federal grant.
