The Community for New Direction (CND) has offered effective youth development and prevention programming to high-risk youth since 1989. The primary purpose is to reduce the use/abuse of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs by program youth and decrease the number of youth violent acts of crime especially related to drugs. The center serves inner-city economically distressed neighborhoods, and collaborates with schools in these areas. The primary minority groups served are African-Americans, Somalis, Hispanics and urban Appalachians. Services include in-school and after-school tutoring, mentorship and summer programming for K-12th grade youth.
