The "How To" of Accessing Housing

There are many providers of housing in Franklin County where ADAMH consumers may live. The most often used are the Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA) and the Community Housing Network (CHN).

CMHA operates public housing and the Section 8 voucher programs and both are accessible by going to 880 East 11th Avenue, Columbus, OH 43211 or calling 421-6000 and setting an appointment to apply for either the public housing or Section 8 program. Each program has its own application, so if you wish to apply for both you must complete 2 separate and different applications.

If you receive a Section 8 voucher you must find housing on your own. Both CMHA and the local office for the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) maintain lists of landlords and available units available to you for the asking.

CHN is both a landlord and a developer. They have access to Section 8 vouchers as well as other housing subsidies for ADAMH consumers. To apply for housing you can either ask a case manager to place your name on the wait list or contact CHN on your own. To contact CHN simply go their offices at 957 East Broad Street, Columbus, OH 43205 or call 251-1700 and ask to speak to someone in Property Management.
